Revival of Popular Sitcom ‘The Facts of Life’ in the Works with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessica Biel

Published

Another popular 80’s sitcom classic may be returning to the small screen in the near future.

A possible reboot of “The Facts of Life” is in the works, but in early stages at Sony Pictures TV, Deadline has learned. Hollywood heavy-hitters Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessica Biel have joined forces with their production companies, Appian Way and Ocean Films to make the magic happen.

DiCaprio and Biel are currently in negotiations with Sony alongside Jennifer Davisson to produce the series. The trio is reportedly in search of dynamic writers to bring on board.

“The Facts of Life,” a spinoff of “Diff’rent Strokes,” aired on NBC from 1979-88, making it one of the longest-running sitcoms of the decade created by Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon.

The series followed the lives of Edna Garrett, played by Charlotte Rae (Ricki and the Flash), and four girls at a ficticious all-female boarding school in Peekskill, New York, focusing on issues that adolescent girls face such as drug use, sex, eating disorders and peer pressure.

Garrett and Rae starred opposite Rae as Edna, Lisa Whelchel as Blair, Mindy Cohn as Natalie, Nancy McKeon as Jo and Kim Fields as Tootie.

The classic sitcom ran on NBC for nine consecutive seasons.

The studio has declined to comment.

BBC Documentary ‘A Fresh Guide to Florence with Fab 5 Freddy’ headed US this Fall

Published

on

Hip-hop pioneer Fred Brathwaite AKA Fab 5 Freddy has announced that his acclaimed BBC documentary — A Fresh Guide To Florence With Fab 5 Freddy, which debuted in the UK this past weekend — will be coming to the US this fall. The documentary follows Fab 5 Freddy as he embarks on a quest to uncover the hidden black figures of Italian Renaissance art.

“Not only were Renaissance artists making art that defined high aesthetic ideals but they were also groundbreaking in showing an ethnically diverse, racially mixed Italy in the 15th and 16th century. You just have to look at the art,” he said in a statement.”

A Fresh Guide to Florence with Fab 5 Freddy

"You need to see this, baby!" Hip hop legend and art lover Fab 5 Freddy explores 15th-century Italian renaissance art. 🎨

Posted by BBC Arts on Thursday, July 25, 2019

The documentary centers the hip hop legend and art lover as he examines the 15th and 16th century Italian Renaissance art in 15th-century style – on horseback. Amidst superstar artists such as Michelangelo and powerful patrons such as the Medicis, Fab discovers ground-breaking images of a multi-racial and multi-ethnic society that have slipped through the cracks of art history. In a 5-star review, The Financial Times says Fab “visits Florence to insouciantly blow the dust off art history” and The Guardian says that he is “on terrific form.”

A Fresh Guide is just another chapter in the incredible year for Fab 5 Freddy. He released the highly praised 4/20 Netflix documentary Grass Is Greener, which traces the history of cannabis in America and its relationship to people of color. The film takes an unparalleled look at the history of cannabis usage in America through the lens of popular forms of music — jazz, reggae, and hip hop — while also examining the racial disparities and injustices within that world. The film has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and just was named to the UK-based Grierson Awards shortlist for Best Single Documentary (International).

A Fresh Guide To Florence With Fab 5 Freddy will come to US homes this fall, date and other details to be announced later this year.

‘Hustlers’ Trailer: Jennifer Lopez joins forces with Cardi B and Constance Wu for Stripper Crime Drama

STX Films’ upcoming film, Hustlers, written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, was inspired by Jessica Pressler’s New York Magazine piece “The Hustlers at Scores.” The story followed a group of strippers who stole from the rich. The article focused on Roselyn Keo, who would have done well on Wall Street, but she was born with “the waist-to-hip ratio scientists have concluded affects men like a drug.”

These hustler dancers worked in a group, and the cast includes Julia Stiles (Dexter, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Business of Strangers), Mercedes Ruehl (The Fisher King, Big, Married to the Mob), Lizzo (2 Dope Queens), Stormi Maya (Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), Lili Reinhart (Riverdale), and hip-hop artist Cardi B in her film debut. Her song “Money” plays in the background of the trailer.

The film is set in the early 2000s when bankers made out like bandits and club managers took 40 percent off the top of any bundle of cash the strippers made in tips.

Hustlers is scheduled to hit theaters on Sept. 13.
