Johana Medina Leon, 25, an El Salvadorian, trans woman reportedly died over the weekend after being detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement at a detention facility located in New Mexico.

According to several reports, Leon was transported to a hospital in El Paso, Texas last Tuesday after having chest pain. She died just a few days later.

Leon, who entered the United States in mid-April at the port of entry in El Paso, had passed her credible fear asylum interview on May 18, but she was only “paroled from custody” on the day she went to the hospital.

It appears that Leon, who had tested positive for HIV, did not receive adequate medical care while at the Otero County Processing Center. Otero has previously faced criticism for mistreating gay and trans immigrants in their custody.

Earlier in March, immigrant rights advocates detailed how LGBTQ immigrants faced rampant sexual harassment and abuse from both other immigrants and guards at the facility.

Text Messages from A$AP Rocky’s Assistant could cause greater Friction during Sweden Trial

On day two of the Sweden trial involving A$AP Rocky (Rakim Mayers) and a man who alleges he was assaulted during a physical altercation with the American rapper in Stockholm, new receipts are causing more controversy.

On Thursday, the man claims some of Mayers’ crew had bottles during the incident although his defense lawyer Slobodan Jovicic sifted through video frames in court, showing that statement was simply inaccurate.

On the contrary, the prosecutors revealed a text message between Mayers’ assistant saying, “I hope Rocky deleted all the videos on his phone and kept only the one.” The message alleges Mayers hit the alleged victim with a bottle, recorded the attack and later deleted it.

This portion of the altercation has taken precedence in the case, according to TMZ.

Prosecutors are now pressing Mayers regarding text messages from his assistant, saying “Harlem came out and smashed a bottle on a person.”

The hip-hop star testified that he “begged” the alleged victim and his accomplice to get away from him and his crew, and he believed the 2 were impossible to reason with because he thought they were high on drugs. Mayers reportedly admitted he and his crew jumped the alleged victim but only as an act of self-defense.

Eric Garner Supporters Disrupt Cory Booker’s Speech during Democratic Debate

Published

on

The second Democratic debate in Detroit got real heated real quick. Just moments into Cory Booker’s speech, the presidential candidate was instantly disrupted by a rowdy group of protesters, bringing attention to the brutal killing of Eric Garner.

On July 17, 2014, Garner died after being put in an aggressive chokehold by New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo. The incident went viral and catalyzed a national movement against police brutality and racial discrimination.

Five years later, on Tuesday, the Staten Island grand jury has voted not to indict Pantaleo, causing an uproar among the Black Lives Matter organization and the victim’s family.

While the protest may have inconvenienced Booker’s moment to impress America, the timing was perfect in the eyes of the hecklers to call out the injustice they believe has occurred. ‘Fire Pantaleo!’ they chanted in unison, demanding for New York Mayor Bill de Blasio who has also thrown his hat in the 2020 election to terminate the officer effective immediately.

Booker chose to take the high road and showed his support on Twitter for the protest.

‘To the folks who were standing up to Mayor de Blasio a few minutes ago – good for you,’ he said.

‘That’s how change is made.’

De Blasio also responded, stating the issue would be resolved in 30 days but did not confirm whether the police officer would be fired.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reportedly teamed up with President Trump in effort to free American rapper A$AP Rocky (Rakim Mayers) from prison in Sweden.

Mayers, 30, was in Sweden as he prepared for his upcoming set on his now-canceled European tour. However, he got arrested due to an incident that occurred recently when he got harassed on the street. The two young men followed the rap star and his crew relentlessly and even threw a projectile at the security. Rocky attempted to calmly reason with them but without success.

The Harlem native has since then been detained and held in solitary confinement for the past two weeks with pending aggravated assault charges.

The power couple caught wind of the news and is urging Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner whom Kim has worked with previously on White House cases.

Kareem Lanier and Pastor Darrell Scott of the White House’s Urban Revitalization Coalition have also stepped in to help connect Mayers management directly with Kushner through a phone call orchestrated by Kim.

Trump agrees Mayers is being held unjustly and wanted to help. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is set to arrive in Sweden Thursday and is now actively working to get him released from jail.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
